Case Summary
The patient was admitted related to opioid use disorder, severe; amphetamine/stimulant use disorder, severe; cannabis use disorder, mild; sedative/hypnotic use disorder, moderate; and tobacco use, moderate. The patient was discharged from inpatient detoxification and then transferred to inpatient rehabilitation. The patient was assessed to also have depression, anxiety, and possible bipolar disorder. Treatment included a methadone taper. The patient was reported to have and opioid withdrawal scale score of eight.
The health plan's determination is upheld. There were no changes in the patient's status that required movement to a higher level of care. The patient did not have withdrawal symptoms that continue to required 24 hour medical oversight in a hospital setting due to serious and life-threatening complications. The patient did not require 24 hour medical supervision, stabilization, and regular vital sign monitoring.
Based on these responses, the patient did not meet criteria for continued inpatient detoxification level of care.
